DEEJ DOES website shown on computer monitor

The DEEJ DOES site is a platform to share a variety of projects executed by DJ Johnson, aka Deej. Deej, with an eye and passion for all things do-it-yourselfing, crafting, hobbying, repurposing, upcycling, and refurbishing, will share projects he’s done as well as provide easy-to-follow tutorials that you can be inspired to try out yourself.

An exciting upcoming feature on the site, DEEJ DOES…, a day-in-the-gloves video diary series where Deej tackles a variety of unfamiliar D-I-Y projects, consults an expert and records the process, revealing the finished project and providing handy tips and hindsight analysis to help others who may need to tackle a similar project.

Stay tuned to this website to see what DEEJ DOES next!

Who is this Deej character?

Graphic designer by day, a do-it-yourselfer by night. Life of the party!

Hello. I’m DJ Johnson…my good friends call me Deej.

My day-job is branding, graphic and website design. Design and technology are very much a part of my daily DNA. I love creating for both print and digital mediums. They say “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” and I find it to be true…I absolutely love what I do thus it really doesn’t feel like “work” ….however its not without its challenges and stress.

I have found that being free to create whatever I want just using my hands and imagination is a great refrain when I’ve worked 12 hours on the computer. Whether painting, glass etching, candle-making, decorative wood-burning, crafting, woodworking, or metal fabricating, …no matter what it is as long as I’m working with my hands and away from glow the of a computer simply melts the stress away. Sometimes you need to go analog…Deej does! ㋡

Now I make things because its so rewarding. It’s so cool to look at something I created and think “wow, I made that and its pretty awesome!’.

Terms Used and Meaning

If I toss these words around here’s what they mean if you’re unfamiliar.

Repurposing is the process by which an object with one use value is transformed or redeployed as an object with an alternative use value. For example, turning a wood door into a coffee table or a wine bottle into a beautiful illuminated art piece. That’s repurposing! Its especially meaningful to me when its something that otherwise would be discarded and becomes something to be treasured. That’s an amazing proliferation of chi and zen (uh-oh, my hippie is showing).

Glass Etching

Glass Etching refers to the technique of creating art on the surface of glass by applying acidic, caustic, or abrasive substances.
