DIY: Hydrating Face/Scalp Masks for Dry or Oily Skin

Hydrating masks moisturize your skin and make it look refreshed, smooth, radiant and youthful.

Our skin is our largest organ and it has huge job protecting us. We need to make sure we’re protecting it. Hydration is so key for healthy skin. Drinking a proper amount of water will aid our skin internally. Externally, we need to introduce emollients that moisturize, hydrate and smooth to make our skin look happy.

Natural hydrating face masks are very beneficial, especially for those who have dry skin. Keeping your skin hydrated is the best anti-aging treatment. The two hydrating mask recipes (one for dry, one for oily skin)  moisturize your skin and make it look refreshed, smooth, radiant and youthful.

Aloe Vera, Shea Butter & Coconut Oil Facial Mask (For Dry Skin):

Take 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of Shea butter. Put all the ingredients together in a mixing bowl, and stir them well until you get a smooth paste. I don’t like my hands get greasy so I use a chip brush to apply the mask. Place a towel around neck as oils will drip when in contact with your body heat. Relax and leave the mask on for about 15-20 minutes.

Rinse it off with alternately cool and warm water and end with a splash of cold water. Pat your skin dry with a soft, clean towel. Finish with applying your favorite moisturizer to lock in the moisture.

Note: A batch I can get about three different uses. Just cover with plastic wrap or use a lidded container.

Before and After Hydration Mask

Egg White, Avocado & Lime Facial Mask (For Oily Skin):

Does it sound weird for avocado to be used in nursing oily skin, when the same avocado is well-known for treating dry skin? The reason we use avocado (a healthy fat) is that in most cases an oily skin is actually dehydrated underneath, thus a moisture boost up will in fact help normalize in sebum production.

Take 1 ripe avocado (peeled, pitted and mashed), 1 egg white and 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice. Put all the ingredients in a small mixing bowl and stir them thoroughly with a wooden spoon until you have fine, smooth paste.

Cleanse your face. Massage the paste onto your entire face and neck with your cleaned fingertips or (chip brush), placing an even layer of the mask paste and leaving on for about 25 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water and carry on with your normal skincare routine.
